    1. Ukraine already has a laser in development for drones. Hitting balloons with it would be trivial.

For reference usable 5G (millimetre wave) is only good for about 500 meters, however sub 6 GHz is measured on km scale.

bottom line, there’s no way this can work, not to mention that these don’t stay still and fly where the wind take them.

This must be propaganda for domestic consumption, I’m not convinced this is feasible.

    4. Are we starting to see any impact from starlink yet?

      Less drone strikes from Russia?

      Issues with comms?

I keep see this and the propaganda news Chanel in Russia going on about starlink and even Belarusian starlink but i was hoping to see more issues on the front for Russia

I guess the new anti-drone tech in the US is ready for this, at least the system tested over El Paso. /s

    6. Okay, the Russians have attached 5G antennas to a weather balloon. If these are the same people who ride horses to the front lines and whose soldiers drink water from puddles, then I can imagine the rest.

    7. For some strange reason, this reminds me of Tony Hancocks sketch called the radio ham.

      Such a laugh..

They did it it’s the blyatlink. Google spent millions and 10 years on project Loon before cancellation. They had extremely complex balloons, that had crazy systems to keep them at the right altitude. The balloons were helium filled with 15m diameter and carried 10 kg payload including batteries and solar panels. And then there was the complex communication system. To claim that some Russians might have done the work, that took years for google, in a week.

These are common uncontrolled weather balloons. The presented launch failed.. three balloons are filled, the fourth one hangs limp and empty. Such things will just float on random altitude to random direction. They will be useless on relaying communication. Only thing they will do is that some remote villages will receive airdropped tech equipment.

    9. And stupid Americans had to launch like 8 satellites in the orbit… russians did that with one balloon with antenna. /s

They filled that balloon with pure copium gas. It is made using unobtanium ore from the planet Pandora, they made a deal with the planets’ de-facto emperor Cameron the First.

    11. google tried this but got annoyed with the idea and scrapped it, it works it’s just a pita.

I look forward to buying one on ebay as memorabilia.

    12. So in terms of pure theoretical feasibility, i am an RF satellite engineer, and at 20 km of height using a 6 GHz frequency, an emitter of a few watt with a decent antenna, and you surely can link to ground (we do it from over 400 km). The datarate won’t be great though… Probably few MBps in total to keep a low enough bit error rate.

Starlink alternative that stays up for two days? lol. 😂 this

Isn’t that like a target buoy?

Just follow the balloons and find the source of the network

    15. Man it feels so weird to say this but last night I had a dream that Ukrainian soldiers absolutely wiped the floor with ruzzian soldiers. Like they literally annihilated.

I am not a superstitious person but my fingers are crossed.
