A while back I saw something at work and said something. Long story short I was fired. I filed a complaint with the DOD OIG and a criminal investigation began.

In the meantime I was left with no job and a vicious ex wife nipping at my heels. My dad has laid in to me several times about how I need to “wise up and shut the fuck up.” I remember when he taught us kids to do the right thing but now…

In the past few years I have sensed an increase in this sense of helplessness, of being afraid to veer off the official party line. It has been going on for almost 20 years now. Folks are afraid.

I think that part of the appeal of Trump was that, for a moment, folks could simply come out of the closet (pun intended) and say “i don’t think kids should be on hormone blockers and having gender surgery.” Or some other politically incorrect thing.

Ok, we don’t have to agree with each other’s position, but large swathes of the population feel that they cannot be themselves and allow their personal convictions to guide their public and private lives. There was, and remains, a really vicious backlash against anyone who doesn’t get with the program.

Of course, as we all know – and many of us foresaw – the Trump moment was but a blip, a flash in the pan. He has demanded an even more intense, overt and ugly form of “loyalty.” And he and his administration are working very hard to silence dissent. We shouldn’t have to live like this.
