We’re hurtling towards war and the continent is turning towards populists in ignorance. Sometimes it feels like Russia have already won the information war. Sad sad times.

What is voluntary military conscription ? If it’s volunteering it’s not conscription and if it’s conscription it’s not volunteering.

Maybe its like what Finland has for the ladies: military service is voluntary, but after about 6 weeks you take a vow of conscription, and after that its compulsory to finish the service

Longest living foregin legion on the planet, and in the simplest term, serving grants citizhenchip. No asylum needed.

Ah yes, nothing more reassuring of those Ukraine treaties than “ voluntary conscription “ doesn’t it literally contradict itself??

  6. I’m confused. I assume France didn’t have *mandatory* military service before, so what’s actually being introduced here? I skimmed the article but it didn’t seem to answer any questions I had about what any of this actually means

  7. Volunteering means you can stop whenever you want, usually when volunteering comes to the authorities or government you can’t just stop when we you want

Isn’t it funny, we own nothing have absolutely no investment in any of our countries and the 1% thinks we are going to die for them to protect their property? Hilarious. The social contract is broken, that means no war bodies for you.

If you volunteer, you serve 12 months . if you are conscripted, you serve 24 months.

That would encourage people to join. If there aren’t enough volunteers. Then start the conscription.

Or if you volunteer you come in at a higher pay, pension.

One is by choice (voluntary). The other is no choice (conscription). Which one is it?

Or just actually pay service man and woman what they’re worth for the extremely important job they all do in protecting their respective counties?

I say this as an American who in our country don’t pay our service man and woman enough either.

  13. What’s the system now? Is there a French army, and if there is, didn’t they join voluntarily?
