That’s a wild number. But honestly, not surprising, Frida’s been a cultural icon for a long time, and her pieces always draw massive attention. 55 million sounds crazy, but the art market loves breaking records like this.

Apparently the painting sold for ‚only‘ $50k back in the 80s. That’s still a lot, but makes some sense with it being an original from a big name. I don’t understand how you go from that to this in just a few decades.
Someone with a net worth of $55 million total could afford themselves a splendid art collection in a huge mansion. How could just one painting be worth so much?
