More proof that journalists are terrible at maths and don’t verify numbers in articles. Though in this case the HSE PR people are also guilty of exploiting this by implying there was a robust data analysis backing up the number. 😢

If you count all the smokers who have died since 2004… 🤔
Years ago, my grandmother literally would read the newspaper and say “let’s see who’s given up the cigarettes this week” (she was reading the death notices).

I still smoke but dont tell healthcare professionals for insurance reasons does that still count
