Dropping fast. Was 126 million not too long ago. Would be nice to buy up an island or village somewhere and repopulate it with foreigners.

It’ll probably be below 100m in 25 years, maybe sooner. It was last below 100m in 1966.

Population dropping rapidly, and GDP per capita flatlining for the past 20 years while comparable countries have doubled or tripled.
The only good thing about Japan these days is it’s cheap for foreigners to visit.

This is a bit misleading. The population of Japan is still over 123 million. It’s just that Japanese nationals are now below 120 million.
>The number of Japanese people living in the country as of Jan. 1 fell below 120 million, logging the sharpest drop on record from a year before, the internal affairs ministry said Wednesday.
(…)
The combined number of Japanese and foreign residents in the country fell by 563,048, or 0.45%, to 123,767,642.
But for Japanese, foreigners don’t count, so I m not surprised that the number of nationals is more visible in the news.

Wonder how much China is losing per year, like the real numbers.

I assume the nimrods at the „team of experts on foreigners‘ policy“ have graduated the 中学校 and understand the concept of proportions when they start applying the foreigner population limit caps

Japan’s population is actually
123.77 million, not „below 120 million“. Oh wait, foreign citizens don’t count. We just live here and pay tax.
