Dropping fast. Was 126 million not too long ago. Would be nice to buy up an island or village somewhere and repopulate it with foreigners.
It’ll probably be below 100m in 25 years, maybe sooner. It was last below 100m in 1966.
Population dropping rapidly, and GDP per capita flatlining for the past 20 years while comparable countries have doubled or tripled.
The only good thing about Japan these days is it’s cheap for foreigners to visit.
This is a bit misleading. The population of Japan is still over 123 million. It’s just that Japanese nationals are now below 120 million.

But for Japanese, foreigners don’t count, so I m not surprised that the number of nationals is more visible in the news.

Japan’s population is actually
123.77 million, not „below 120 million“. Oh wait, foreign citizens don’t count. We just live here and pay tax.
