    1. That’s his whole shtick. He boasts far-fetched goals with no tangible plan to implement them.

But because it’s him, people believe the hype and pump his ideas up (including financially).

Remember when he said he’d put someone on mars by like 2020 or whatever?

    2. Playful_Possible_379 on

Pump and dump ponzi meant to destroy America and it’s space program. He is a pedo and a traitor.

If only people had been saying this before investors made the company worth $2.2 trillion based on this promise alone…

    4. According to the IPO it’s mostly an AI company making money with starlink. The rest of space is just … extra or something.

    5. AbeFromanEast on

SpaceX is the vehicle Musk has stuffed unprofitable xAI and Twitter into. Overall the combined company is losing billions per year.

It was taken public yesterday in order to give his VC friends an exit using the public’s „dumb money.“ And also to keep xAI’s cash furnace burning for another year or two.

    6. Healthy-Engineer6565 on

He’s a complete joke (sadly, a very unfunny one), his “ideas” are so often juvenile, self-aggrandising, and completely unrealistic, and he works real scientists to exhaustion trying to turn his whims into reality, all the while taking credit for their hard work. He’s a dumb person’s idea of a genius, and when it comes to ambition, this time his hubris has got the better of him.

    7. Here’s one simple thing makes Elon different in business. Yes indeed he tries to go for what is insanely unachievable, regardless of what people say, and on the way he makes changes and concessions and compromises and technology advances, and he zeroes and re-zeroes the target all the way. All the way to SOMEWHERE.

Those who decide it can’t be done, go all the way to nowhere. Except maybe investing in Elon ’s IPO…

    8. No-Computer7653 on

That tends to happen when you claim you can ignore physical laws of the universe.

    9. Some of the time they will be right. But there have been over 620 Falcon 9 booster landings. So sometimes his vision is also right.

    10. How many times did Musk promise „Full Self-Driving“? He’s no more trustworthy than Trump.

    11. I do not like musk at all.

The trouble is a lot of people are negative nancies when it comes to spaceflight, and insist that there’s no way we can ever get a space colony, and have been saying that since 1947. Heinlein’s „It’s Great to be Back“ short story has people spouting the same anti-space lines you see to this day.

This article is about the data centers in orbit, sure, yet also is dubious of spaceflight period. Every time people criticize musk they feel the need to bash the rockets, not all the other absurd evil stuff he does. As if the rockets were the start of the problem.

    12. Are people are forgetting all the bullshit he said would happen with Tesla? This is his modus operandi, sell the world and deliver almost nothing in comparison to it. It drives stock prices up because idiots will buy into it regardless.

    13. he literally has done more then anyone alive to advance space flight

do we really want to punish those who dare to dream big

    14. Ikariiprince on

He’s a rich idiot who happens to have some brilliant people working for his corporation. He just has the money to throw around at his awful ideas and sometimes really stellar things come out of it that advance space exploration. A broken clock is right twice a day and all that

    15. The Falcon 9 was a brilliant concept, the BFR may be Elons Space Goose. I don’t see it being used for the lunar program for quite some time. The hopefully unlikely chance that a nuclear power currently suffering a tactical disadvantage due to inferior space infrastructure, explodes an emp tuned nuke above their own territory wiping out most space infrastructure would be catastrophic.

    16. No shit, this whole move is just the biggest scam ever. And people will buy their share like candies

    17. ChipmunkSuch4907 on

what’s the point of any of this if we can’t take care of humans on earth today? like yay great we have 3x the population and some of them live on mars, but they can only afford to eat orange clay. what a joke

    18. shimapanlover on

      Yes they are unrealistic.

But I don’t think that was ever the point. It’s about setting goals and marketing. „We are going to defend our market share“ is not going to get you the views. And he needs his companies only sometimes to deliver for it to work.

    20. Unrealistic is a really good word to use. Idiotic, Cretinous, Imbecilic, and witless would be better.

He’s a drug abusing idiot with more dollars than brain cells. Please start reflecting that more in headlines. For example

** Science Fiction? Musk idiotic ideas amount to less than nothing and skeptics are wondering why he’s still in charge of anything more complex than a lemonade stand.

    21. We’ve been supposed to be on Mars for a decade, 8 years, 6 years, 5 years, 2 years and in 3 years too.

    22. Annoyingly this IPO lumps SpaceX with a huge deficit as it will take a long time if ever for xAI to make a profit, considering how far behind they are I cant see them ever doing so.

The whole company can’t ride on Starlink, if it was just the space company then I could see the value.

    23. Colonizing the human species isnt a predictable endeavor. Of course there is a degree if incredible risk if invested. They do more than shoot rockets off too. I’m not an Elon Musk supporter by any means but would expect an imbalanced person taking such chances.

    24. I don’t understand how he is a trillionaire, like its just pretend money right? How much of it is actually based on physical things? Why do we continue to place value in nothing? Or am I just stupid? (Honestly asking because I don’t really put value in the fake money I earn and spend that I never actually see since its all virtual anyways. Also I am a dumbass)

    25. doomiestdoomeddoomer on

An AI company who’s AI is ranked 4th behind it’s competitors. Which doesn’t turn a profit.
A rocket that does cool tricks and a starship that has yet to reach orbit. Which doesn’t turn a profit.
A social media platform that is hated by half the world and is otherwise a haven for extremists, lies, propaganda and the most ignorant people on earth (but hey it’s free speech). Turns a tiny profit.
And finally Starlink, which turns a mediocre profit and is reaching the limits of it’s scalability.

So how is Elon so rich? Corruption and insider trading.

    26. My god why is there not some way to just block everything musk related.

      Hes a moronic lying conman.

„But- but spaceX actually does things“

Yea it does things, many amazing things actually, none of the things musk said it would tho

    27. The iss uses 75 kw, a gpu rack uses anywhere from 40 to 150 kw. The orbital data centre is never going to work.

    28. To be fair,.experts have said everything musk wanted to do for the last 15 years were unrealistic….

And kept proving them wrong over and over

    29. SpaceX is a symbol of how much detached stock market is from reality. Company has tiny revenue compared to its valuation (like 1:100)

It is operating at a loss and no micro profit in sight (!)

Even if its total revenue was profit, it is well over the top!

    30. The „experts“ said Elon’s targets for Tesla were impossible. And then he met every one of them.

    31. Elon is a bullshit artist, pure and simple. SpaceX employs some very talented people. Elon is not one of them.

    32. It’s weird how when SpaceX/Musk says something, it’s report at face value. But when someone points out SpaceX/Musk BS then they’re labeled as skeptics in the headline (at least the article itself calls them experts).

    33. macona-coffee on

Like most of the market, spacex valuation is mainly based on hype and hope. Reality does not come into it. That’s why we have market crashes. Does anyone really think that a company’s value goes down so dramatically so quickly without any real world reason. It’s all hype. Hype up and hype down.

    34. Elon keeps naming shit after characters from Iain M Banks Culture novels. Which are explictly about a socialist utopia where people like Elon are the villains and objects of pity.

    35. OldWrangler9033 on

It’s kinda sad, I like original SpaceX the company (the non-AI thing) it making rocketry do something again, get people excited. Yet Elon keeps steering it into weird places, and hitching it to non-profitable properties like the AI company. Heck if he hadn’t backed current President, the Tesla won’t be dying because consumers hate his guts now.
