Wow you drink coffee twice and surrounded by people who drink the same, so the whole world is just like you? Amazing.

      >How is this real?!?!

Can’t you imagine that people have different habits?

      >I haven’t seen many tea consumers in Europe

The map shows that Europe is mostly coffee.

    3. SeparateTrack2818 on

That’s because coffee-drinking Europe is under 1 billion people, while India+China dwarf them with 3 billion.

    4. culture_vulture_1961 on

India and China have 40% of the world’s population and the UK drinks 50% of all the tea.

    5. For north Africa, pretty sure that Algeria is coffee dominante even thi both are consumed, coffee’s definitely more

    6. UK, we do drink a lot of tea. I’ve had 3 cups today and will probably have another 2 or 3

    7. I genuinely don’t know why you’re so astonished. Your own consumption is irrelevant to worldwide statistics. So is the fact that you haven’t seen many tea consumers in Europe, since the map clearly shows that Europe is mostly coffee-drinking.

The thing I find most surprising is that Japan, home of the tea ceremony, drinks more coffee.

    8. I have little understanding how can people drink more coffee than tea + I am also wondering how my country has more tea than coffee on this map, cause all I see around in the city is people rinking coffee \ talking abot it (Ukraine)

    9. Really Japan is more coffee? They have a whole culture around tea. They have the whole tea ceremony, not a coffee one.

I also drink coffee twice per day, not because I like the taste, but because i need energy.

The other times in day if I’m thirsty, and I’m at home, I make myself a cup of tea. I live in the north and i drink cold/lukewarm drinks only at summertime. Most of people in my country (Russia) do the same.

Why is that so surprising? Tea and coffee does not disable each other, they have different purposes. Tea could be compared to juice, clean water, lemonade and other drinks for the thirsty people. Coffee, on the other hand, makes you even more thirsty.

In Ireland more people now prefer coffee to tea and when asked for their favourite beverage, more people now choose coffee.

Coffee completely dominates the takeaway / to go and café market, with one-third of consumers buying a coffee outside the home every single day.

However, because tea is often consumed in multiple cups throughout the day at home (averaging 4-6 cups per person), it still leads in terms of the total number of cups consumed nationwide.

This map is inaccuarate. The cateogories are ’sensible sound of mind tea drinkers‘ and ‚heathen scumbags‘.

The only shocking thing about this is that you don’t understand that your own personal experience isn’t as accurate as worldwide statistics.

    15. „Haven’t seen many tea consumers“ probably because they drink it at home?

    16. Well I drink about ten cups of tea a day, so I balance out you and four friends.

Keep in mind that in some countries people drink both heavily. Where I’m from (Vietnam) you’ll almost always get a free cup of tea when you drink at a cafe. Also tea is widely served in every small restaurants.

    19. I would think Germany is a Tea country, maybe it’s only my family and friends who always drink black tea.

    20. Questioning Vietnam here. Pretty darn close if coffee isn’t the outright winner.

    21. Something that absolutely shocked me on my trip to Japan is that you can literally buy a can of black coffee from a vending machine on almost every corner. Sometimes warmed up but often not

    22. In the UK you are probably unlikely to buy a tea whilst you are out or at a cafe or something but when at home you will offer people tea or if on your own drink many many cups a day so tea is consumed more.

Coffee more an event, „getting a coffee“. Tea a staple to have throughout the day.

i was raised in russia and most people drink tea everyday, coffee is very popular too especially in cities but all things considered i’d say if people drink one hot beverage a day it’ll be tea

Australia and New Zealand must be close. We have very strong coffee culture but a cuppa slaps

Now do espresso v brewed countries to really get the fights started.

    29. Maybe people have different habits than you? I’m european and drink more coffee than tea but I know a lot of people who drink no or nearly no coffee and loads of tea.
