  1. EDIT: Article has been updated and will probably keep getting updated.

*Reason number 999999 to 25th amendment the grifter. Not that this cabinet will, they lack any iota of courage, but we have to bear witness I guess.*

„Since returning to office for a second term last year, President Donald Trump has used his authority to issue pardons to reward friends and allies, campaign donors, and the thousands of supporters who stormed the Capitol during a violent riot after he lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden.“

„Now, he is reportedly promising to issue more to his top aides as a way of shielding them from any consequences for potentially illegal acts committed during the remaining years of his administration.“

„According to *The Wall Street Journal,* Trump has repeatedly promised pardons to administration officials on multiple occasions, including during one recent meeting at which he reportedly said he’d “pardon everyone who has come within 200 feet of the Oval” before he leaves office in January 2029.“

„The *Journal* also reported that he’d had a separate conversation with aides in his private dining room during which he’d mused about holding a news conference to announce the mass pardons in the waning days of his administration.“

„But White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt characterized Trump’s promise of preemptive pardons are an example of his sense of humor, telling the Journal in a statement that the newspaper “should learn to take a joke” while adding the caveat that Trump’s pardon power remains “absolute.”

I like how Donald Trump openly talks about criminal schemes in plain sight.

  3. Don’t‘ kid yourself, he’s making sure they’ll do his dirty work until he gets sick of them…

  4. They are so openly criminal, conservative voters I just don’t understand what your seeing.

  5. I know it’s a slippery slope but we need a way to negate pardons when they are bought or when issued by someone involved in the crime they are pardoning.

Can we make a rule that if you commit treason all pardons are null and void? Because we better not honor any pardons he gives people or this will just be failed reconstruction 2.0

Reason nine million why presidential immunity was a catastrophically bad idea. The president can order federal officials to commit crimes on his behalf and then pardon them, ensuring no accountability for crimes.

  8. He was openly taking a million dollars a pardon in his first term. And he was doing it all his first year this term. The gop is fine with it

This whole pardon thing is ridiculous. they should stop this shit in general.

-trump is illegitimate to begin with; he participated in an insurrection and cannot hold office
-his appointments, pardons, and corrupted dealing should all be null. There’s absolutely no justification for recognizing or legitimizing his pardons/executive orders when he ingored countless laws to begin with.

Why are so many of Trump’s friends in prison. Come to think of it, he should be in prison too.

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. This is why his cabinet members and their staff stay loyal. Once they piss him off they’re out in the wilderness and facing prosecution in a couple of years.

What the fuck has this jerk done for regular Americans across the entire country? Absolutely nothing. What a fucking disgrace.

When all of this is over, the pardon power should be the first thing reformed. No president should be able to pardon their cronies for crimes committed on his behalf. Period.

  15. It is pretty obvious that preemptive pardons should not be legal. Requiring a conviction before pardon is how it should work.

I really hope the next administration ignores the pardons and brings these people to court. Then argues that because pardons are an act of clemency for someone wrong convicted and meant as a check on the judiciary, they can only be valid *post conviction*. A preemptive pardon is not a pardon. „Do an ilegal thing for me and I’ll keep you out of jail“ is not the pardon power.

  17. Allowing a president to pardon his staff is basically giving him the green light to demand they do crimes for him. It shouldn’t be allowed.

  18. > But White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt characterized Trump’s promise of preemptive pardons are an example of his sense of humor, telling the Journal in a statement that the newspaper “should learn to take a joke”

That is their ridiculous excuse for ~50% of everything Donald says.

I thought pardons can be reversed like he said he was going to do of last president’s pardons

We definitely need a constitutional amendment to fix the pardon issue. It’s only gonna get worse from here.

  21. The entire constitution needs to be trashed and re-written. Or move back to a parliamentary system. The American experiment has failed.

this admin has showed me that presidential pardons should not exist altogether. if all it takes is one corrupt asshole to abuse that power to devastating effect, it shouldn’t be an option for anyone.
