Social safety nets work, Republicans are wrong for trying to defund them.
People in America will ignore this until the very end, but so many studies have shown that housing first programs (just giving homeless people apartments) works better than anything else at improving people’s lives and making the productive members of society.
So we have a case study that shows we CAN actually solve this issue.

These programs matter.
In other words, the program works, but everywhere else in the country sends Cali their homeless.
Housing first works. Some people may not be ready for housing for first time but maybe the second time. Giving people housing is good thing and has long term benefits. The earlier you give people housing the better. Give them safe communities and you see positive effects. This not an overnight problem you can fix in a day. The federal government needs to step it up.

That is good news. Also it is evidence that social services work and help people. They are not easy or seamless, but are valuable tools to better people’s lifes and our society(s).
