Social safety nets work, Republicans are wrong for trying to defund them.

People in America will ignore this until the very end, but so many studies have shown that housing first programs (just giving homeless people apartments) works better than anything else at improving people’s lives and making the productive members of society.

So we have a case study that shows we CAN actually solve this issue.

I don’t trust any of her homeless statistics she releases. Bass has been unwilling to release all the actual data.

Your headline really highlights the backwards ass headline narrative in the article. 60% retention is a *lot of humans able to get back on their feet*
These programs matter.

In other words, the program works, but everywhere else in the country sends Cali their homeless.

Housing first works. Some people may not be ready for housing for first time but maybe the second time. Giving people housing is good thing and has long term benefits. The earlier you give people housing the better. Give them safe communities and you see positive effects. This not an overnight problem you can fix in a day. The federal government needs to step it up.

fully expecting local news stations and nimbys to completely ignore this 60% success rate just so they can keep running endless fear-mongering segments about how the city is throwing money into a black hole ngl. supportive housing actually works when you bother to fund it.

It’s almost like actually giving people resources and shelter works significantly better than just criminalizing poverty and tearing down their tents. who could have possibly predicted this tbh.

Works even better when you just give them long-term housing instead of just motel rooms.

Millions wasted on construction projects, when California could put them in $5K FEMA trailers on public lands!

Fucking amazing. Turns out if you help people they can get better. Who knew?

That is good news. Also it is evidence that social services work and help people. They are not easy or seamless, but are valuable tools to better people’s lifes and our society(s).

“The $300 million project has helped move some 5,800 people into interim housing, but data from December revealed about 40 percent of them have returned to the streets, according to the Los Angeles Times.”
60% retention seems decent. The bigger problem is that price tag, which is not reasonable for that number of people.
