The guy is going to lose his job because he had knuckle reinforcements (possibly brass knuckles) on.

    2. TorontoNews89 on

      I support this security guard.

This is what happens when the police fail to do their jobs and theft is rampant. People are tired of it and will step up to do their job.

    3. FrankGehryNuman on

Who woulda thought a security guard making minimum wage would have an authority complex?

    4. OnlyACsNoFans on

Obviously not legal, but good to see someone doing something about rampant lawlessness.

More than the cops and courts are doing these days

    5. I know law and order is failing but that doesn’t mean you get to beat the shit out of people.

    6. And again, everyone will walk on eggshells to callout who was caught stealing.

    7. Bad_Day_Moose on

Honestly, security guards should be able to stop thefts and use reasonable force to do so, I haven’t seen the video so I can’t comment on that but when someone can walk into a liquor store, fill a cart with 1000’s of dollars worth of inventory and walk out with nobody being able to stop them when they can see what’s happening there’s something wrong with the system.

      What happened to citizens arrest?

    8. Aside from the death threat – which i consider heat of the moment – the guy deserves a raise and an award from the city.

The „first nations leaders“ that are whining about this can kiss my ass too.

Lol, bet the shoplifter will think twice next time he goes shoplifting…… since he’ll obviously be out & about as shoplifting is no longer considered a crime in this country….

Good on the security guard for stepping up

    10. Yeah you don’t get to attack someone with illegal weapons because you think they shoplifted or even if they did this isn’t a comic book.

Guy just trashed his life over dollar store crap

    11. Dapper_1534 on

Give this security guard a raise for actually trying to prevent a crime.

    12. RealLeaderOfChina on

Props to the security guard. I believe him when he says that the shoplifter hit him in the face first.

He didn’t do anything wrong, only did his job correctly.

    13. Security guard is a good person and has good values

On the other side, don’t throw yourself under potential legal risk for corporations. It’s not worth it

    14. Jfkexperience69 on

Oh no, I will try to remember this info when I try to stell 96$ worth of stuff and then utter threats at people when stopped.

    15. WallyReddit204 on

Security guards get pushed, sworn at, spit on, and embarrassed on the daily there. Perhaps we should look at what triggered this. I doubt the “shoppers” were just supporting their neighborhood dollarama

    16. krametthesecond on

Indigenous leaders continue to deepen the divide between normal citizens and themselves.

    17. Otherwise_Meeting491 on

Honestly, I see no problem here… If the guy was stealing, FAFO. If he wasn’t, security can be charged appropriately.

ALOT of people could do with a good fuxking smack these days, and if you don’t believe me, go work retail.

    18. The security guard apparently having brass knuckles is going to be a major issue here. Likely jail time for the security guard and a payment to the alleged thief that greatly exceeds the value of the stolen items.

    19. So a dude is commiting a crime and he is the victim now?

      Classic Canadian true crime story.

Absolutely zero accountability for their actions.

    20. musicbeats88 on

The security guard stood on business. Don’t want trouble? Don’t start it.

      Cheers!

This is what happens when people lose faith in the justice system.

Gladue, releasing dangerous, violent offender repeatedly, a complete disregard to law abiding citizens and we spend BILLIONS on attacking law abiding gun owners for political points.

It’s sadly only going to get worse.

I predict broad Vigilante justice is next up for this country. And that is really scary.

    22. LargeMobOfMurderers on

Cops and courts need to start dealing with „petty“ crime instead of expecting other people to get angry enough to endanger their lives and livelihoods to do something themselves.

We’re asking for mob justice and vigilantism by having such an ineffectual law enforcement and justice system.

    23. Secure-Anywhere-1851 on

I swear like 99% of people in security failed to be Leo’s and want to start a fight every day on the job

    24. The security guard is doing a better job of maintaining civility and order than the police and our elected officials. The guard will be arrested and lose his job/license, while the junkie thief will get an apology after a mandatory land acknowledgement ceremony. In a just society, thieves would be arrested by the police and face real consequences to disincentive these types of behaviors, and security guards who deal with this nonsense daily wouldn’t feel the need to resort to tactics like these.

    25. Hungry-Bicycle-3851 on

So this is what will happen likely, thief gets caught and released (Same day!). The security guard losses his job, get the book thrown at him for beating up the dude (and since he had a weapon, he gets even more fucked). Then the thief sues the shit out of dolalrama and they have to pay up.

The law in the country is fucking insane. You cant blame the cops cause the DO their job and catch these folks but its the justice system is where they do nothing. In the end, the thief will be doing the same crime next day while buddy here loses his job.

I dont condone violence but what he did was actually what SHOULD happen to these idiots. You fuck around and find out. Down vote me all you want but this shit will get worse and more common.

    26. Personally, I’m all for it. The security guard has to put his life on the line every single day. Otherwise, what is he supposed to do shake the guy’s hand as he leaves the store with stolen items I mean come on at what point is it not the thief’s fault.

    27. To anyone who hasn’t been to / lived / or even just walked on Portage, I suggest you get off your high horse

That security guard definitely seen some shiiiiii

      Judges: *refuse to punish criminals*
      People: *start doing it*
      Judges: surprisedpikachu.jpg

Force used here is excessive but goddam, how did it get to a point where thieves are just boldly walking into a Dollarama to steal over $90 of stuff often enough to warrant hiring security? This all could have been avoided if our justice system did its fucking job.

    30. SameAfternoon5599 on

Maybe he’ll finally get the point that thievery won’t be tolerated by the vast majority. Doubtful though.

    31. The background commentary in the video is top notch.

Reminds me of the time a vagrant threw himself in front of my moving vehicle on Main Street. Didn’t actually hit him but he did shuffle himself further under my truck when I stopped to make it look like I did.

The crack heads standing out front of the Yale all of a sudden had a PHD talking about broken backs. Cops ended up hauling him over to the drunk tank to dry out.

    32. Low_Warning13 on

Winnipeg resident here: lots are really happy that a security guard actually did something when these low life’s come to trash/steal from a store. It’s an ongoing problem in our downtown.

      W security guard

    33. SinisterCanuck on

There’s security guards at dollaramas? What kind of fucking dystopia are we living in

    34. hows_it_goes on

      As a left wing minority can someone explain this to me;

The highly respected chief called this incident racism, the security guard is a POC.

My liberal arts professor at college told me POC cant be racist, so how is this racism?

    35. SpiritualScene6249 on

Security guard of the year. I’ve watched far too many videos of these robbers shop lifting and physically assaulting people while everyone helplessly stands by.

    36. Judging by his accent I would assume he’s an immigrant. The mistake he made was treating this like it’s the same as whatever country he immigrated from. Probably over there they would let this slide or even encourage it and just arrest the criminal because they allow punishment of theft with violence in a lot of those countries. But you can’t do that in Canada. Canada is an extremely liberal country and they will protect criminals if their rights are being infringed on even at the expense of the victim of the original crime.

I think if we allowed stuff like this there would be a lot less crime but at the same time he’s in the wrong for violating the existing laws and assaulting a subdued man. If we punished crime as harshly as this barely anyone would even consider a life of crime. But sadly we can’t do that. Because people would complain. The Karen barrage would be so over this.

And by the way, this is still tame compared to what they do in some of those other countries. They do things like chop off people’s fingers over theft. We live in an over privileged country and we don’t even know it.

    37. “I risk my life everyday” ya beating up teenagers at a dollar store isn’t getting you a medal of honour bud

It’s a crime to defend property especially with a weapon.

Better to be a career thief or burglar
