Honestly, security guards should be able to stop thefts and use reasonable force to do so, I haven’t seen the video so I can’t comment on that but when someone can walk into a liquor store, fill a cart with 1000’s of dollars worth of inventory and walk out with nobody being able to stop them when they can see what’s happening there’s something wrong with the system.
What happened to citizens arrest?

This is what happens when people lose faith in the justice system.
Gladue, releasing dangerous, violent offender repeatedly, a complete disregard to law abiding citizens and we spend BILLIONS on attacking law abiding gun owners for political points.

Cops and courts need to start dealing with „petty“ crime instead of expecting other people to get angry enough to endanger their lives and livelihoods to do something themselves.
We’re asking for mob justice and vigilantism by having such an ineffectual law enforcement and justice system.

The security guard is doing a better job of maintaining civility and order than the police and our elected officials. The guard will be arrested and lose his job/license, while the junkie thief will get an apology after a mandatory land acknowledgement ceremony. In a just society, thieves would be arrested by the police and face real consequences to disincentive these types of behaviors, and security guards who deal with this nonsense daily wouldn’t feel the need to resort to tactics like these.

So this is what will happen likely, thief gets caught and released (Same day!). The security guard losses his job, get the book thrown at him for beating up the dude (and since he had a weapon, he gets even more fucked). Then the thief sues the shit out of dolalrama and they have to pay up.
The law in the country is fucking insane. You cant blame the cops cause the DO their job and catch these folks but its the justice system is where they do nothing. In the end, the thief will be doing the same crime next day while buddy here loses his job.

Judging by his accent I would assume he’s an immigrant. The mistake he made was treating this like it’s the same as whatever country he immigrated from. Probably over there they would let this slide or even encourage it and just arrest the criminal because they allow punishment of theft with violence in a lot of those countries. But you can’t do that in Canada. Canada is an extremely liberal country and they will protect criminals if their rights are being infringed on even at the expense of the victim of the original crime.
I think if we allowed stuff like this there would be a lot less crime but at the same time he’s in the wrong for violating the existing laws and assaulting a subdued man. If we punished crime as harshly as this barely anyone would even consider a life of crime. But sadly we can’t do that. Because people would complain. The Karen barrage would be so over this.
And by the way, this is still tame compared to what they do in some of those other countries. They do things like chop off people’s fingers over theft. We live in an over privileged country and we don’t even know it.
