Vladimir Putin was accused of waiting for temperatures to drop to -20C in [Kyiv](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/kyiv) before firing hundreds of missiles and drones, [knocking out power](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2025/10/10/russia-launches-massive-attack-on-ukraines-infrastructure/) to more than 1,000 buildings on the coldest night of the year.

Some 450 drones and more than 60 missiles, including Zircon, Kh-32 and Iskander-M cruise and ballistic missiles, hit cities including Kyiv, in what Ukraine said was a calculated attack to inflict maximum pain on ordinary people.
