In what world are Swedes less white than Brits?

Was in London a few years back. Half drunk at night, walking back to my hotel. And I walked by the house he lived in when he was there. It was surreal, I knew he had lived in London but to just walk past it in a back ally was cool.

What exactly did *swarthy* mean back then?

So much pickiness about who is white and who isnt in MUTTmerica, and in reality almost no one in the US really fit their strict standard of whiteness, but holy crap if they care about that label.

Did we ever have anti swarthy racism in the same way we have anti black and anti brown racism?

Genuinely the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. Why even use the word white at that point there’s populations with lighter skin in Europe.

I’m constantly shocked at just how swarthy the Danes are. Clearly Franklin was one of history’s greatest thinkers.

That’s not the shape of Germany during the time of Ben Franklin though.
