Cool to see how Europe’s internet speeds are leveling up digital unity to match the cultural one

That is NOT anywhere near close actual numbers of Turkey, it is somewhere between 30 to 40

German here: When the company installed new fiber optic cables where I used to live a couple years ago, they also offered them to the apartment building. The owners‘ association, made up of a bunch of pensioners, rejected the offer because we „already have a telephone cable.“ So we were stuck with the old 16k copper line.

    4. Ireland has **all** the internet cables going through it. Why is it so… bland.

    5. Surfing with my 4G, it took a while for the picture to load! I’m downloading a steam game as I scroll reddit, admittedly.

    6. That’s a huge improvement I think for Greece. We used to be in the lowest of the lowest.

    7. Easiest answer about Bulgaria:

„Some things, have never lost after the Cold war ended.“

In the Cold war, Bulgaria quickly adapt the computer knowledge. After the Cold war, Bulgaria still kept computer knowledge & quickly adapt the digital age. Bulgaria quickly mastered min-max internet speed.

Bulgaria government is corrupt and „slow responders „, but letting internet freedom exist, let us survive in the digital age.

      I’m in Upper Franconia, Germany with 02/Telefonica and I get 150+ 🤷🏻

I don’t see the point of some super fast connection. I am paying 5 euro for 100mbit/s in Bulgaria. After the first year it will be 8 euro. The high speed connections are way more expensive.

What’s up peasents. Can’t wait to see what your combecak is in the 5 days it takes for your slow internet to recieve this.

Utterly unlimited data here, and very cheap generally, but you’ll get 5G displayed and bizarrely low speeds like not unusual to see less than 30mbit/s in the middle of cities. I think it’s a mixture of overloaded networks due to the vast amount of data being used, and probably throttling.

The networks here also don’t seem to compete on speed and basically just lie about 5G being fast. I’ve never once seen them give a speed reference just keep talking about 5G that’s often not any faster than 4G

    12. I can confirm in Croatia that small provider (Pro ping) has build significant fibre connections throught rular places and under 10k small cities, where big providers wont build (min 300/100 d/u for 20 € monthly and 6 months for 1€).

    13. I’m sorry but in what part of the UK are you actually getting 70mbps downlink speed?

    14. Idk where you got 90 in Poland. I get 50 max in Warsaw on 5g. In malls it drops to 0.1

    15. German here:

53% of all households in Germany could use a fiber optic connection, but only just under one in four (27.3%) actually do so.

In addition, many people who could have a 100,000 or 250,000 VDSL connection do not use it at all, but stick with a 50,000 connection.

    16. Bullshit. I’d like to know how they took the measurements.

I just did one myself on their website, with 5G in Spain, and it gave me 330 Mbps.

    17. romania and bulgaria internet speed is always on top in such graphs but why all my romanian friends having constant connection issues whenever we play together

I am living in Belgium and am always happy to embrace modernisation.
New optic fibre infrastructure has been installed 3 years ago in my village and I now happily have a 4500Mbit connection. Of course, I currently need much less, but you never know how things will evolve in the coming years.

Bulgaria is kinda surprising. It is like if Africa would have would have the fastest fiber out of all of the continents.

    20. Can confirm for Bulgaria, in Sofia I get mobile speed of several hundreds of MB/s to the point that often i use my mobile over home wifi when wifi is spotty

Another German here: Many years ago we had a minister for Postal Services from the CDU. When it came to a point to decide if Germany should introduce fibre optics and abandon copper cables, he decided to go for the copper. Choosing fibre optics would have catapulted Germany to the front of modernisation of the communication sector in the whole world. Turned out his family was investing in copper companies.

Also: Many apartment buildings have „build in“ cable tv connections. That’s how you also could get your internet. Up to a two years ago if you were a tennent in such an apartment you had to pay for the cable tv company, no matter if you used their service or not. So one of course wouldn’t pay for another service provider, even if it was fibre optics and even if it was faster. And thus companies did not put fibre optic cables into the ground in those districts. I live in such an apartment, quit my cable tv contract as soon as it was possibel (never used it anyway) but kept the internet. It is not the fastest, but ok for my use case. Only a few weeks ago someone finally brought fibre optics to this district, but for me its too expensive for what it changes.

    22. Currently in Germany and can’t tell you enough how perplexed I was trying to use my mobile data for the most mundane things here compared to Croatia.

Bulgarian here, getting 1200mbps download on mobile data, im on Vivacom

    24. In Italy with Vodafone I pay 26€ per month for optical connection. In WiFi from to my mobile phone 450/500 Mbps download 300 in upload ping 22. According to Ookla speed test.

      1-Turkey is not in europe

2-Median download speed is 30megabit/s in turkey

    26. Median download speeds on mobile is a terrible metric; worse connection with few users in the area gets better results than downtown in a major city with higher quality connection available.

    27. So these are like… Mobile internet speed? Like 4g, 5g? Why would you need a lot of speed on the phone? Live streaming on social media? Lower latency in video games?
