That AP notice about airlines was as of last night. At least a thousand more flights likely to be canceled today, bringing the total to 3,500+.
Virginia Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger, the state’s first female governor, said her recent election victory should not be seen as permission for congressional Democrats to prolong the government shutdown.
“Our victory was based on a campaign addressing concerns related to costs and chaos,” Spanberger told @margbrennan. “Virginians need to — and Virginians want to — see the government reopen.”
This clip is circulating among some Senate Dems right now, I’m told. 👀
I’m concerned that this means that Democrats are about to fold. I hope Schumer and anyone who votes for it who is not retiring knows that this could be the end of their Senate careers.
We need the Friends intro to play at the start of every one of these now, with shots of Thune and Schumer looking increasingly smug and constipated as the song goes on
Senate convening at 1:30pm Eastern US time. Live video [here](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/watch-live-senate-meets-for-weekend-session-as-government-shutdown-reaches-40th-day).
There’s gonna be a vote today! Thune said. Meanwhile bunch of reports saying that a deal is close.
I heard Trump’s big new health care idea is to get his personal doctor to write every single American a doctor’s note that says they’re in such perfect health, they actually need health insurance anymore.
Dems are apparently gonna cave
NEWS — A deal in the Senate to end the government shutdown is within reach, multiple sources from both parties told Axios.
At least 10 Dems are likely to support a procedural vote on a package of funding bills and a CR, sources said.
It would be in exchange for a vote on ACA tax credits in December and some language re: RIFs.
Well fuck
Day 40
Good ‚morning‘ bot. I guess it was a long night of chugging motor oil?
Democrats gonna cave, huh?
What a surprise.
JEFFRIES, on @MeetThePress, on whether he can accept a promise for a vote on Obamacare subsidies to open govt.
“I don’t think that the House Democratic Caucus is prepared to support a promise, a wink and a prayer, from folks who have been devastating the health care of the American people for years.”
I wonder if Jeffries can stop the Senate? Probably not. If Jeffries goes out and says that Schumer should be primaried after this, I would gain more respect for him.
I knew they would cave. All this for nothing.
People in this thread:
„This is horrible. People are starving and losing their jobs over this shutdown. It needs to end!“
Also in this thread:
„WTF!? Why is my side caving!?“
Dems gotta do what they gotta do to save Thanksgiving for Americans. That’s just how it is. There’s no reason to keep Americans suffering over this, even if it’s all Trump’s doing. They can’t let him burn the country down for this shutdown, and they need the House to open again for the Epstein vote. Trump has already put a lot of blame on himself with the whole SNAP debacle.
Say the Senate passes the bill today, wouldn’t the Hosue still need to vote and approve again? And aren’t most house members not even present?
Glad to hear this is coming to an end – let’s focus on improving health care affordability
lol if the Democrats, after getting nothing for passing the last CR, then sticking to this shutdown for 40 days only to cave and get **nothing** for it…
every day, I am reminded why I left the party this year after 20 years…
Keep fighting Dems!!!
I’m starting to think that Schumer is going to announce his retirement soon. Many senators retired last time the Democrats caved; Pelosi has just announced that she will, and he knows his days are numbered, even if he can keep the senators from caving. Plus he is 74. By retiring, he won’t face any consequences for letting the democrats cave.
Passing the CR means an Epstein Files vote has to happen?
I mean if Epstein files are as bad as they’re supposed to be and actually get released then who cares that they caved? It also means GOP will be forced to go on record against ACA subsidies before midterms and after premiums spike
What has been going on with the attack posts on Schumer? They feel in bad faith. He hasn’t folded and kept dems strong. As per his record he literally was the one that tricked the Republicans and got Inflation Reduction act passed, Chips act, tar pit recovery funds for veterans etc. He got criticized for not taking a stronger line against Trump earlier this year but to be fair that wasn’t the right time to strike. By waiting to now when Trump’s popularity has sunk it has given the Dems more leverage. Yes his stance on Israel isn’t great but quite frankly basing this all on Israel is super lame. He seems to know how to navigate DC politics quite well.
Isn’t Congress right back in the same situation November 22nd or a few months later if the CR is passed?
Will the house have to vote on this or is the government open when The Senate passes whatever they’re passing?
Why do articles never explain this part. So fucking annoying.
Democrats have reached a spineless deal. They are promised by the Republicans a vote on ACA in December. I bet that vote never happens lol. Pathetic Dems rolling over again.
The Dems have another caucus meeting before the vote. Maybe they can talk some sense into the yes votes like they did last time.
A short extension is fair. Gives time for more talks while getting these workers paid
The Democratic Party is a travesty. Not been excited about a ticket leader since Obama but held my nose and voted for them anyway each time and for what? The same corporate ownership but with deference to pronouns. So fucking over it.
Are they seriously talking about a “trust us, bro, we’ll provide health subsidies next month” deal with pathologically dishonest Republicans?
Here’s hoping this is disinformation just like a week ago when the GOP misinformation machine filled media with claims that Dems had oddly scheduled Wednesday as “caving in” day.
For those who are maybe still uninitiated on the way things have worked and apparently continue to work…
Step 1: republicans start gutting country left and right.
Step 2: democrats whine.
Step 3: democrats bitch
Step 4: democrats moan.
Step 5: democrats and republicans come together and gut the country together.
Step 6: democrats brag about keeping opposition accountable and pat themselves on the back.
Chuck Schumer will write a strongly-worded surrender.
