Crime rates are usually measured per 1000 inhabitants and if the number of people in an area is larger than the number of inhabitants, the crime rate will automatically be higher even if the individual risk is not. This for example means football stadiums, concert locations and airports. And you can easily find the O2, several football stadiums and Heathrow on the map because they are darker red.

It goes to show that the narrative in a lot of the right wing press about London being totally crime infested is a load of rubbish. Most of the city is relatively very safe compared to the rest of the country.
In absolute terms there is a lot of crime, but that’s largely because the population is a large as a small country’s.

For those that have never visited before, London is numerous towns and villages, and a couple of cities, all merged into one big metropolis. The outer edges are very green.

Tube and train stations cause more people to go to specific places, and then crime happens.
Crime doesn’t happen where people live, particularly violent crime.
