      This is not news, because Putin will never agree to „Peace“ talks, unless forced to. He will not meet with Ze because he does not want to legitimize the Ukrainian nation and state.

      Just dismantle the ICC already. It’s completely useless. I got downvoted some time ago for saying that it’s only purpose is to go against 3rd world leaders that can’t fight back against the 1st world.

      Any country with sufficient military/economic power, allies or US backing will simply say fuck you to anything the ICC says. When even the countries that signed the treaty say they won’t uphold the rulings then what does it even exist for???????

      I’m not a fan of Putin, but you don’t get peace talks if you threaten to arrest the parties.

Blame France and supporting allies (eg UK) for the idea, not the Swiss.

      Let’s say the Swiss reject the idea. We cheer. What then?

      Check the nations which did not ratify Rome statute: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rome_Statute Who should stage peace talks then? Most non-signatories are at least on friendlier termd with Russia than Ukraine, sone are even Allies. The US are Russia’s b*tch right now. Who is left, Israel?

      I would understand if people would prefer to scrap the talks. I would agree, as I don’t believe talks with Putin are worthwhile right now. But, *as long as Ukraine agrees to talks*, I would not shit on the country that provides the stage. Especially if it wasn’t even that countries‘ idea to begin with.

      Its a systemic issue with ICC arrest warrants. Democracies like Israel send negotiators, but autocracies will often reject that if the glorious leader had trust issues. Is it worth to deny the other side of the conflict the chance for peace talks just to maintain the legitimacy of ICC? Tough choice IMHO.

      Not many alternatives around which are neutral on the conflict and have a tradition of staging talks. Singapore comes to mind.

      I am completely surprised by the posts here.
      Everyone one wants end to war. Ukraine and Russia need to meet to discuss.

      If Switzerland is offering the venue then why is it such a problem? How else the negotiation will happen?

      Would we rather have discussion in China?

      I don’t quite get the hate over Switzerland.
