Interesting. So the evolutionary pressure of males breeding potentially twice or more is greater than the females being more likely to have a successful brood with a large meal at conception.

The pedipalps are used in mating but they aren’t the genitals. Tarantulas make a sperm web and collect sperm into the pedipalp from the web.
