The title is a little confusing as it seems to imply the linked paper came to that conclusion instead of hypothesizing a potential reason that they haven’t actually studied yet.
For those who don’t know, they’re talking about the foremost „fifth“ pair of leggy-fingy-looking things, the palps.(they’re not legs)
More like “Female tarantulas selectively breed Hung Males”
Interesting. So the evolutionary pressure of males breeding potentially twice or more is greater than the females being more likely to have a successful brood with a large meal at conception.
And they say size doesn’t matter
If humans did that..I would not have a great time
The pedipalps are used in mating but they aren’t the genitals. Tarantulas make a sperm web and collect sperm into the pedipalp from the web.
