    1. The title is a little confusing as it seems to imply the linked paper came to that conclusion instead of hypothesizing a potential reason that they haven’t actually studied yet.

      For those who don’t know, they’re talking about the foremost „fifth“ pair of leggy-fingy-looking things, the palps.(they’re not legs)

    3. Interesting. So the evolutionary pressure of males breeding potentially twice or more is greater than the females being more likely to have a successful brood with a large meal at conception.

      The pedipalps are used in mating but they aren’t the genitals. Tarantulas make a sperm web and collect sperm into the pedipalp from the web.
