    1. Why do people want to reward a terrorist organisation with a state?

There are still hostages in Gaza and other than a short sentence of „sympathy“ we don’t hear jack shit about it from these leaders.

What’s next, ISIS gets recognised as a sovereign country for what they did to the Yazidis?

    2. If they do recognise Palestine in September they will join

      France

      Malta

      UK

      Canada

      San Marino

Since 2024 the following countries have recognised Palestine:

      Mexico

      Spain

      Ireland

      Norway

      Armenia

      Slovenia

      The Bahamas

      Trinidad and Tobago

      Jamaica

      Barbados

In total 147 of the 193 UN member states have recognised Palestine as a state, just over 75%.

The US has been the lone vote stopping it’s membership using it’s veto power.

    3. Good. The only way forward is an end to the violence and an end to the ethnic cleansing. The more international pressure on Israel the better.

    4. It’s so bizarre how these Western countries are calling for a ceasefire and release of hostages on one hand but trying to prevent it on the other.

Whether Palestine should become a state should be based on the merits of its ability to be governed independently and autonomously.

I don’t see how anyone can reasonably look at the Palestinian Authority today and say they are ready to be a State.

It’s clear that these moves are more about trying to punish Israel than they are about actually helping Palestinians.

Bear in mind please, no matter your stance on the subject of Palestinian statehood, that this is Portugal „considering“ something. Portugal’s capacity for extended deliberation is not to be underestimated, and any actual decision or action might take a while.
