As long as barely 20% of the electorate vote in the primaries and almost half never vote at all, the m/billionaire class doesn’t have a whole lot to worry about.

The problem is the segments of the population that progressives depend on are not reliable in the general election. If they would just turn out to vote more, we would see more successful progressive candidates be elected

    3. Not *what can happen*. What has been suppressed by both parties for decades.

Well, yeah. Guy is talking about things the common man wants. That isn’t good for elites.

When grassroots progressives like Mamdani start gaining genuine support, the establishment begins to feel uneasy. It’s not just about a single race it signals the possibility of a broader shift in political power

Lol, if Mamdani can’t win in NYC with Adams and Sliwa splitting the Republican vote and Cuomo as the Democratic alternative, I don’t know where the fuck he CAN win.

Yeah, this is a belwether case, but running the other direction. If Mamdani CAN’T win this, progressives are well and truly cooked.

The fear is rooted in their pocketbooks. They would rather see Americans suffer and die than pay taxes.

It’s not the billionaires trying to crush him as much as it is the democrats themselves though, right? I mean why can’t we just have hundreds of endorsements and no other noise? Instead it’s constant humming and hawing about what should be a popular slam dunk.

    11. Sanders is right, billionaires would be terrified of that, I hope this dude gets elected and I would vote for him if I lived in NYC but there are a legion of troglodytes who vote all over the country and are willing to shoot themselves in the foot before voting for someone black/brown let alone a Muslim because muslims did 9/11. This is the reality we live in, its sad but its where we are at unfortunately.

    12. So they have no concerns about a fascist racist murderous regime, but actually creating a society where everyone has healthcare and can afford a decent life is a step too far? They are utterly evil.

Just want to point out that Bernie Sanders watched white people (including and especially Bernie’s target demo of young white males) either vote for Trump or stay home, both of which gave him the white house, and then publicly blamed a black/asian woman for the loss.

That wave is way too progressive and Democrats lining up behind it will fail miserably. There has to be something better.

if we had a normal primary in 2024 we would probably have a leftist populist President today. Our political conversations would revolve around the effects of the incoming universal healthcare program.

As long as progressives don’t lean back into the culture war stuff it can earn more widespread popularity.
