People are missing the point here. Its important to note that Carpenter had SIX albums before her breakout last summer. She only made it big because she went the sexy pin up route. That’s what makes people uncomfortable. People don’t want to admit sex sells in 2025, in theory we’re supposed to be beyond that.

    2. everything is “satire” when their favs do something off kilter lol. (although idk if this is technically off kilter for her)

    3. raylan_givens6 on

I’m not buying the „satire“ story

Sex sells, its been proven time and again

I think she’ll try to play it both ways

Clearly selling the sexy image, but will try to take the high road and say of course its „satire“ (wink, wink)

Man, her PR and Marketing teams really hit an engagement bait homerun here. It’s actually such a benign cover in the grand scheme of things, like who is actually wasting their energy being pissed at this?

    5. epicredditdude1 on

I’m sure she’s devastated everyone is talking about her new album (available for streaming and for purchase online and at most major retailers).

    6. I’m really confused, so please don’t come at me. Why can’t a woman’s album cover look like that? If in that moment it was her idea to pose in that manner and have a man hold her hair in what some would say is a degrading manner, isn’t it empowering that she was in control and enjoyed it? I guess what I’m trying to say is … if it’s a woman’s choice to be a man’s play toy, because it brings them joy, why can’t we celebrate that? I don’t think that makes them any less of a feminist or that they’re being “regressive.” Again, please forgive me if I’m missing a point here. I promise I’m not trying to.

It’s only satire if the music is satire. The album cover doesn’t determine the genre. Are these people stupid?

    8. fat_charizard on

Who here is old enough to remember the public backlash to 80s metal bands who would feature satanic imagery?

Anyone remember the criticism of N.W.A. or Eminem?

This is nothing new. It actually makes me more eager to listen to her music. I like counter culture music if it has a good message to it.

People should mind their business & concentrate on real world issues which we have

    10. Fuzzy-Caterpillar718 on

The women’s organization should focus on getting girls on diets before they throw shade at Sabrina

    11. GuybrushThreepwood99 on

There has to be more important things in the world to be upset about.

    12. This is the same pearly clutching shit we heard about Britney, Lopez, and Aguilera.

Same tired nonsense, or a backdoor way to advertise, take your pick, its all BS

    13. I think there are a couple of things at play right now. society itself is regressing, at least in the US, when it comes to sex positivity and content that is considered „raunchy“ or suggestive in any way is increasingly criticized. this is especially prevalent for women (it always has been, but very much so now). I am of the opinion that, while from an artistic standpoint I don’t find the cover to be that revolutionary or *cool*, I *do* know Sabrina is very smart herself and whatever vision she has, I trust it’s coming from a place of integrity and whatever makes her happy. as another commenter said, if her posing in that way and having the creative direction depict her in a certain manner is what SHE wants, then why the fuck are people so adamant about claiming she’s reverting women back to 1950? the satire angle is whatever, but I just think she’s an artist and I can respect whatever she’s trying to do. I just like the music at the end of the day, anyway.

Almost literally judging a book by its cover. Wait until the album is out to find out what it’s actually about.

    15. LittleBoo1204 on

Women tearing down other women is what’s regressive. If one woman wants to be buttoned up and completely chaste, let her.

If another one wants to flaunt her right to express herself how she wants to express herself, satirical or otherwise, let her.

Women are already policed enough for every minuscule thing they do or don’t do, no need for other women to help provide the stones 🤷🏻‍♂️ this isn’t even that shocking or taboo either!

She’s also 26 years old, but such is the curse of every former Disney star. How dare they age and mature like the rest of us?! Stay young and squeaky clean and be a model for my kids forever, dammit!! 😬🥴

    16. Nice-Gap-3528 on

I have no opinion on the matter, since I don’t listen to Sabrina Carpenter. But from an outsiders perspective, this is truly fascinating to watch.

    17. Otherwise-Emu-2963 on

Is this somehow less tasteful than full nude covers? Are we critiquing Meg thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Cardi B for their overt sexuality this harshly??? Or do we celebrate their audacity? I’m asking these questions because I think people need to admit that the fact that Sabrina Carpenter is a petite, blonde, white girl who openly expresses her sexuality rubs them the wrong way because it contradicts the innocence that someone who looks like her is „supposed“ to portray. Just look at the amount of people who say she looks like a „child.“ A lot of people are unwittingly playing into purity politics and I think it’s really a sign of the conservative times that we’re living in.

    18. Any time people start defending stuff as “satire” when it’s not actually satire, then we’ve got a deeper problem here.

    19. But there’s not satirical element to the image. It’s just a woman being treated like a dog.

    20. mortalmeatsack on

Holy shit, people are actually up in arms about this? Give it five years and no one will give a single shit about her.

    21. Isn’t the whole point of feminism choice? Like if she wants to do it she can? Obviously I am not a big fan but she can live how she wants and promote what she wants.

    22. suppadelicious on

I love how heated it’s gotten people. Meanwhile Sabrina is probably loving the publicity.

    23. PatriotNews_dot_com on

Eh, she’s following the controversy path of past popstars. Not a bad way to stir up attention. I don’t listen to the music but I can appreciate the strategy

    24. NeptuneAndCherry on

Sabrina Carpenter: makes album cover that looks like she’s been crying and slapped down to the floor and is now begging her man silently for permission to get up

People ITT: she’s just expressing herself, it’s not that deep

Where’s that tweet that’s like, I don’t support all women, some of you are very dumb

    25. It would be truly tone deaf to assume the satire would register effectively with the population at large and naive to assume the people behind the decision didn’t know better, not that I’m saying it was an improper decision. But it was not intended as satire imo, that’s bullshit

    26. tipseymcstagger on

Why do people get so upset when a woman confidently owns her sexuality and is empowered by it?

I don’t know her music that well but I love how she gets all these pearl clutchers wound up. Get it Sabrina!

    27. Sproose_Moose on

How is it satire? Every thing she does is sexual, it’s her brand. There’s not an inch of satire.

    28. SevereEducation2170 on

A cheeky, female popstar is under fire for using her sex appeal to stir up interest in her upcoming album. All of this has happened before. Time is a flat circle. Etc. And so forth. We are a people obsessed with outrage.

    29. If only your fans can understand its „satire“ then it is, at its best, incredibly poorly crafted satire and that is giving that reprehensible cover the benefit of the doubt which it does not deserve.

    30. Lostmypants69 on

Who gives af. Is it really that important to be bitching about a music album cover with what else is going on in the world right now? The woman is old enough to make her own choices. Shitting on a grown woman’s choice sounds a bit like reverse sexism to me
