People are missing the point here. Its important to note that Carpenter had SIX albums before her breakout last summer. She only made it big because she went the sexy pin up route. That’s what makes people uncomfortable. People don’t want to admit sex sells in 2025, in theory we’re supposed to be beyond that.

Man, her PR and Marketing teams really hit an engagement bait homerun here. It’s actually such a benign cover in the grand scheme of things, like who is actually wasting their energy being pissed at this?
I’m sure she’s devastated everyone is talking about her new album (available for streaming and for purchase online and at most major retailers).
I’m really confused, so please don’t come at me. Why can’t a woman’s album cover look like that? If in that moment it was her idea to pose in that manner and have a man hold her hair in what some would say is a degrading manner, isn’t it empowering that she was in control and enjoyed it? I guess what I’m trying to say is … if it’s a woman’s choice to be a man’s play toy, because it brings them joy, why can’t we celebrate that? I don’t think that makes them any less of a feminist or that they’re being “regressive.” Again, please forgive me if I’m missing a point here. I promise I’m not trying to.

I think there are a couple of things at play right now. society itself is regressing, at least in the US, when it comes to sex positivity and content that is considered „raunchy“ or suggestive in any way is increasingly criticized. this is especially prevalent for women (it always has been, but very much so now). I am of the opinion that, while from an artistic standpoint I don’t find the cover to be that revolutionary or *cool*, I *do* know Sabrina is very smart herself and whatever vision she has, I trust it’s coming from a place of integrity and whatever makes her happy. as another commenter said, if her posing in that way and having the creative direction depict her in a certain manner is what SHE wants, then why the fuck are people so adamant about claiming she’s reverting women back to 1950? the satire angle is whatever, but I just think she’s an artist and I can respect whatever she’s trying to do. I just like the music at the end of the day, anyway.

I have no opinion on the matter, since I don’t listen to Sabrina Carpenter. But from an outsiders perspective, this is truly fascinating to watch.

Is this somehow less tasteful than full nude covers? Are we critiquing Meg thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Cardi B for their overt sexuality this harshly??? Or do we celebrate their audacity? I’m asking these questions because I think people need to admit that the fact that Sabrina Carpenter is a petite, blonde, white girl who openly expresses her sexuality rubs them the wrong way because it contradicts the innocence that someone who looks like her is „supposed“ to portray. Just look at the amount of people who say she looks like a „child.“ A lot of people are unwittingly playing into purity politics and I think it’s really a sign of the conservative times that we’re living in.

How is it satire? Every thing she does is sexual, it’s her brand. There’s not an inch of satire.
