    1. Democrat Colin Allred could defeat Republican Ken Paxton in a hypothetical battle for the Senate seat currently occupied by John Cornyn, according to GOP polling obtained by the *Houston Chronicle*.

    2. Cool, I hope it happens, but if even Ted Cruz couldn’t lose against Colin Allred last cycle then it’s definitely an uphill battle.

    3. Could

      Hypothetical

OK. And I *could* be elected Pope. I want tne Democrats to win every election. But I’m so sick of speculation presented as news.

I’d prefer Allred of course, but frankly, I’d rather have Cornyn stay put than have Paxton in the fucking Senate. If you’re a Dem in Texas, consider crossing over for the Republican primary to hold your nose and vote for Cornyn so Paxton doesn’t even have a chance at the seat.

I’ve been hearing “Texas is turning purple” since Mark White was governor.

    6. drive_in_nerd on

Yeah. That’s it. Texas could turn blue. Elections could have consequences. But we all know they won’t.

    7. I doubt that. But it would be very nice surprise. Like discovering unicorns are real.

    8. Remember that part when Beto was winning and then he said we should be a gun free society? never ever ever underestimate the Democrats ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I’ll believe it when I see it and not a moment before. Texas senate race hopes always end up being Lucy-with-the-football situations.

(Also, I suspect that if it does happen, it’ll be a surprise, because excitement about a possible flip just energizes GOP voters in Texas.)

    10. PolicyWonka on

No, they won’t. People have been saying this for decades. It never happens.

Polls are not **predictive**. Polls are **reactive**. We need to stop worrying about polls so much.

    12. Doubt it. Red states have decided that if a democrats wins they must have cheated and will refuse to certify the results. Look at NC right now.

    13. mike_hawk_420 on

I just don’t see trump and then giving up power peacefully when they lose. Thats what’s scaring me

    14. I was pretty sure Allred was going to pull it off. I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then, it’s just a flashy headline.

    15. Ok-Proposal-4987 on

No they won’t. Stop. Every election they say this shit, then the lazy, disorganized, disenfranchised, defeatist, Texan democrats and independents stay home and they lose handily. Tired of this crap.

    16. We hear this every election cycle and it just doesn’t happen. Everything is bigger in Texas and that seems to include the ridiculous desire to vote against their own best interests.

    17. FrenchBulldozer on

Could? Come back when the title reads “Democrats win first Texas Senate race.” Texas and the rest of Magamerica have proven time and time again they’ll vote for the absolute worst candidate just because they hate their brown neighbors.

    18. theB1ackSwan on

Oh neat, this headline, every two/four years, again and again and again.

    19. HellovahBottomCarter on

Ahhh yes, the Lucy’s Football of news headlines.

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me every single election cycle? Also shame on me- because I should have known better than to think Texas wasn’t full of self-hurting, party-over-country, brainwashed trash.

    20. Every election, Texas is suppose to elect a Democrat senator but it never happens.

    21. Sch1z01dEmb0l1sm on

Riiiiight, Texas refuses to do any good. Anyone trying to do good in it is just treading water in a sewage tank. They will do anything in their disgusting power to keep Texas red. And it’s worked this whole time…

    22. Present-Perception77 on

I’m not optimistic. I left that hell on earth 3 years ago. Rural people absolutely want it this way. Most of Texas is rural. Get out if you can. The entire state is now controlled by the people that wrote project 2025. Texas was the testing ground. And the psychos are heavily armed. The coming summer heat and hurricane season is not going to make good things happen there.

Our regularly scheduled „Texas will turn blue any day now!“ article

    24. helpmegetoffthisapp on

I’ve been hearing this for a decade. Wake me up if it actually happens.

    25. I wouldn’t hold out too much hope for us Texans. Our GOP led state government… well, I don’t know if it’s THE most corrupt in the US, I don’t know enough about other state legislatures to say that with confidence… but I’d be SHOCKED if Dan Patrick, Greg Abbott, Ted Cruz, and all their goons and staffers weren’t at least in the top 5.

We’re gerrymandered to hell, and even if Dems did win legitimately, they’d probably find some creative way to fix the numbers to keep Regressives in charge. Look how they pushed through that school voucher crap even though literally everyone came out in opposition to it.

That said, still go vote. It’s one of the few things we can actually do to try changing things.

    26. Ampersandcetera on

I’m done being rooked by Texas polls. Every election some wunderkind thinks they can beat Ted Cruz by, you know, not being Ted Cruz, and every damn time Texans keep voting for Ted fucking Cruz.
