    1. Prediction: Iowa is going to turn blue.

Of all the red states, that one is going to be a bellwether of the turning tides.

I would call winning with a 59% margin’ vs 35% in the 24 election a significant shift. Special elections always have a lower turnout, this does not necessarily change the composition of the turnout.

    3. It was about a 11.5% over-performance by Dems in a super low turnout environment compared to 2022 (the last time the seat was challenged).

Meanwhile, in Minnesota, the GOP held on to Senate District 6 (Justin Eichorn’s old seat) with a roughly 3% underperformance at 35% turnout. For reference, turnout was about 70% in that district in 2022 (the last MN Senate general election).

    4. I know a lot of Iowans. Many don’t dislike trump but they hate what he’s doing. It’s not that they are uneducated or stupid but they feel like they are being ignored and he’s giving them attention. Now that the abuse is happening again they are having doubts.

This Administration is disappearing citizens, tourists, and children off the streets; arresting judges for following the actual law; and setting legal groundwork to use the military against its own citizens… but, yes Newsweek, let’s bravely employ headlines criticizing a party for possibly overstating the magnitude of a special election win.
