The first common trait is resentment and hatred, deliberately cultivated within society toward a segment of that same society and toward external “enemies” who must be eliminated or defeated in order to move toward a “bright future”.
Then comes spoliation as a way to address some of the above-mentioned problems and to “get back on track”.
And, thirdly, messianism.
The country is split on this regime and political good will towards it is decreasing every month. While Trump may or may not make irreversable ground with their P25 plan, it does open the door for future emulation if the ground doesn’t fall under everyone’s feet. Trump has already lost more money than he expects to save, but the next guy might achieve the autocratic America First end goal if Trump cannot.
Destroying the federal state has one advantage for Trump and his ilk: regulators prevent trusts (thus killing antitrust) and protect rights (e.g. management, possession and exploitation of data or consumer protection etc.).
