Unfortunately the article does not say which employers they found doing this practice
The 10-day threat is very stressful, especially after many years in Malta, regardless of the industry they work in. So it is good to know there are discussions to change it.

And this is how we all suffer. They do what they want and those too vulnerable to complain suffer, and with them us. Has no one ever heard that saying…. First they came for…. What they do to them they will eventually do to us.
Greed sees no faces or races.
TCNs have no right to stay in Malta without a permit. If an employer is abusive and they have to return to their country of origin, there are legal means to get compensation, even if whilst they are outside of Malta. I don’t see any issue here.
Fish in the water have more rights than TCN people here, so relax guys, be prepared for deportation, when your employer is satisfied with his bank account, or when he finds a replacement for you for less money, wizzair have cheap flights.
Leave personal vehicles here, leave deposits of the rented properties to the landlord, leave freedom for better days.
