EMT here.
I’ve talked to two dudes who survived gunshots to the head. One lost a solid chunk of his right hemisphere but could still kinda speak. The other was basically locked-in but used a tech setup on his wheelchair to communicate.
The guy who could talk told me getting shot felt like a “glitch behind the eyes.” He said everything—the light, the sound—got stretched and warped. From a neuro perspective, that tracks. The occipital lobe processes visual input, and if that area gets hit or disrupted, the brain can’t interpret what the eyes are seeing. So light starts to stretch, reality kind of lags, and visual data gets scrambled.
He also said the sound was like being dragged under rushing water—probably his temporal lobe or auditory pathways getting overloaded or distorted by the trauma. When one sensory system takes a hit that hard, the others start to misfire too. Your brain relies on everything syncing up, and when that system short-circuits, nothing makes sense anymore.
It’s wild how the brain just scrambles to stay online when that kind of trauma hits.

Sad to see. Anyone who volunteers to fight ISIS is a hero. May he rest in peace.

The sound of the gunfire is immediate and loud indicating that he was shot from someone in very close range or weapon misfire…? The carry handle is struck as well…

Him dragging that barrel made me grit my teeth and cringe

I know he’s just a volunteer, but you have to have better sense than to drag your weapon across the ground. Props to him for fighting against the evil, though

Man check out the age of that kid originally holding the camera. I know it’s well known that people young volunteer or are conscripted to fight various wars, but that dude doesn’t even look 18 and he goes and picks up that PKM right after seeing a comrade go down like that who tried to do the same thing. Sad to see, but he’s got more guts than I’d ever have.
