An incident that occurred during the [War of Attrition](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_Attrition).
Note the firing indicator at the top left of the frame that indicates the attacking pilot only had to pull the trigger for less than half a second once he got behind the MiG to turn it into a flaming wreck, a testament to the power of the 30mm DEFA cannon.
The Mirage carried two such weapons that were derived from a German WWII design that never saw service. Each high explosive shell contained around 50 grams of bursting charge so it did not take many hits to bring down a fighter. The Mirage carried 125 rounds per gun, enough for around 6 seconds worth of firing time.

The pilot was identified as Lieutenant Mohammed Abdul Bakhi Ahmed Hassan aged 26, who managed to eject from his aircraft and survived to be captured in spite of his injuries.
The French Defa used on these Mirage fighters and the British Aden both 30mm and the American M39 20mm where based on the German Mauser MG 213 which was a prototype revolving cannon developed in late WW2, there where 20 and 30mm variants but none entered service. The U.S, U.K and France would base ther new fighter armament on these single design, the American 20mm faced serious reliability issues, but the DEFA and Aden proved to be highly reliable and extremely powerfull with good muzzle velocity. The footage apears sped up, but a single burst of less then 1 second was capable of shooting down any plane light to medium plane with 2 or 3 rounds, the canons only got deadlier as radar gunsights become progressively available.
