    1. >T__he International Doner Federation (UDOFED), based in Istanbul, has applied for “traditional product name” (TGS) certification with the European Union (EU) Council. As the application awaits review and a decision in the coming months, concerns are growing in Germany about potential job losses in the doner industry.__

Why did use the „ü“ in türkiye but not the „ö“ in döner in this article? Nobody calls a döner a doner.

    3. In Germany, Kebap houses have started to officially label it as „Drehspieß“ which in English would be something like „turning skewer“ after the turning iron pike you can see in the picture.

But n my rather limited understanding of Turkish „Döner“ also means exactly that, it describes the turning skewer and „Kebab“ the meat (actual Turkish people can correct me).

„So instead of calling me ‚dragon‘ in one language you call me ‚dragon‘ in another language.“ – Draco to Bowen in *Dragonheart*.

I remember going on vacation to turkey as a child and seeing their version of a döner compared to the german one. That was like 20 years ago and the turkish döner was horrible

    5. It’s clearly not Turkish. Would be the same as Germany claiming the Hamburger as German.

Change the name, make the Turkish angry and piss the Greek off at once: Halal Gyros-Pita.

    7. Schützt den deutschen Döner 🥙, das ist deutsches Kulturgut!!!🥙🥙🥙

Such a pressing issue on EU radar….as if nothing more important was going on in the world.

Are there elections in Turkey soon? Or why do they bring up that topic again? Germany already objected in July

The article is also ridiculous. Of course the Döner shops will all close, instead of renaming Döner to Erdogans meat.

    10. Just call it Berlin style Döner or Drehspieß like many German fast food stands already do. No need to close any shops, just change names. .
