Ich denke, dieses Bild wurde 1976 aufgenommen (das bin ich auf den Rücken meines Vaters). Meine Mutter hat dieses Bild gemacht, aber ich habe keine Ahnung, wo es ist. Mein Vater war von 1975 bis 1978 in Deutschland stationiert, also denke ich, dass dies Deutschland ist, aber ich weiß es nicht genau. Kann mir jemand helfen, den Ort zu finden?

Oh this is something for geowizard in YouTube. He does these challenges where he tries to find locations by historic pictures like yours. There isn’t much to go on besides the fountain and the houses but I’m sure he’d be interested in the challenge

Seems like red sandstone which is very typical for the German southwest. Must be a hilly area since the roofs are at the same height as the fountain, could be the Odenwald or Pfalz. Maybe post in r/Heidelberg (doesn’t look like Heidelberg though) or r/Mannheim ?
What I get from the picture is:
– The hills in the background point towards the south-western part of Germany
– smallish town with an elevated plateau, the well likely is positioned in front of a church or some other regionally significant building
– the fountain sculpture is a lion holding a heraldic shield
– the wall as well as the fountain basin are made from sandstone, which hints towards a region that has a) an abundance of that material and b) likely isn’t very rich.
My bet would either be on Pfälzerwald or Vosges.
The way that sculpture is made (thickness of shield, complexion, as far as I am able to identify it its sight direction) is very similar to the „Löwenbrunnen in Kallstadt“ so that might be in the general area.
