Jugendliche unter 14 Jahren können keinerlei Verbrechen angeklagt werden. Im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes hat ein 13 -jähriger ein Kind in Jurmala zu Tode gestochen und er bekommt überhaupt keine Strafe.
Jeder fährt wie Psychopathen. Eine Frau floh neulich vor einem Unfallort, in dem sie die Person, die sie in ihrem Auto geschlagen hatte, verletzt ließ. Sie hatte überhaupt keine Lizenz, nur eine Lernende erlauben es. Strafe? 50 Euro Geldstrafe.
Dann gab es den Basketballtrainer, der seinen weiblichen Spielern unter 16 Jahren Drogen und Alkohol gab und sie vergewaltigte. Strafe? Zivildienst.
Was ist hier los, Leute? Wie ist dieses Land im Moment nicht in absoluter Anarchie mit einem so laxen Strafjustizsystem?

read about murder in jekabpils. Sometimes i think police is only chasing underage teens who smoke and drink in public.
And Brejvik got 21 year in a four star hotel for murdering almost 100 people. What’s your point?
There are people who are serving life sentences in Latvia, and believe me, it is harsh.
I know, I know, we all want criminals to be publicly hanged and left to rot on the dome square. But that’s not how it happens In most civilised countries.
I’m not saying the punishments are good enough – sometimes, they are not. But raging about few examples that you know very little about apart from he did that – he got this, is just stupid.
Latvia does fall behind in punishing crimes such as domestic violence, I will give you that.

There are a lot more details in the Latvian version of the article. Basically he got the punishment the prosecution sought and the victims family are apparently happy with the verdict. I’m sure they know a lot more about the details of the case than either of us so who are we to say that it’s too lax?

– in general latvians are law abiding. petty crimes / tax / frauds are tolerated (Figaro style) but purposed manslaughter is a strong taboo
– we have concealed carry allowed. if you are in real danger you are allowed to deploy a firearm in self-defense
