America is shooting itself in the foot, in the legs, in the arms, in the chest, and China is just there reaping all of the benefits.

Genuine question. I see non stop articles about how all the tarrifs will hurt the US so much but never articles about how the other countries would be more screwed, especially because the US is the largest consumer economy in the world? I also never see anything about these countries already having tarrifs on many US products. If I come on reddit it all seems so one sided and I think I’m seeing to much bias. I disagree with Trump on tarrifs big time but at the same time I feel like I’m missing a bigger part of the picture on reddit. Can anyone give me a more nuanced take?
      Thank you in advance.

Last year I thought Trump admin would go hard against China+Russia nexus and actually open up more trade and force a supply chain realignment with the rest of the world. But instead the opposite is happening.

Like your problems were simple. If you wanted to bring back manufacturing, instead of doing tariff wars against everyone you devalue USD your own currency by talking with G7 and other big countries like India and Saudi. Instead again…the opposite happened, USD has gotten stronger further making it difficult.

You are surrounded by these Peter Thiel like personalities who can run funds but not countries, its bad advice.

As someone who has spent considerable time in China, I can’t express enough how insane this is. Chinese animosity towards Japan has always been greater than towards the US in my experience. The fact these 3 will be working together against the US is unprecedented as far as I’m aware

I never thought I’d live through a repeat of the Great Depression.

      Ah well.

      Life.

      It’s full of surprises.

Uniting Japan, South Korea, and China… against the USA. What an historic foreign policy achievement. 😔

    7. The Big Three Automobile makers in the world will determine its terms, not the US!

    8. This is likely just a fluff by the CCP state media who want to portray itself as a good faith economic actor that others should partner with. The CCP’s economic model is to be that of a salty water bottle merchant supplying to those wanting to quench their thirst, get paid for it, and demand thanks.

The effect of Trump tariffs are nothing compared to what the CCP has been doing behind the scenes against Japan, South Korea, and Europe ala tech theft, forced tech transfer, state subsidies, „boycott“, „safety inspection“, „customs forms missing“ etc…

    9. This is going to divide China even more. People on here don’t want to see that China is not unified like Japan & SK. The coastal cities will side with whomever they can make business with and will dump inland China. There are still huge tensions between each region of China that will resurface once cash flow is hurt and pressure from Japan & SK for certain raw materials happens.
Japan & SK have low birth rates and a small labor pool. It’s either play nice or a forceful takeover. This is not really an issue for the US as it is more so a necessity for Japan & SK.
