This article is generating quite a few comments in the Norwegian-only group. In short:
* Are you from EEA/EU? If you apply for Norwegian citizenship, you are not allowed to be abroad more than 62 days per calendar year in the three years preceding UDI’s decision on your application.
* How to complain? In similar cases, both UDI and UNE have rejected complaints. This regardless of the reason of the stay abroad (studies, work, family, health issues).
* Is this allowed under EEA rules? ESA is currently assessing the merits of a complaint on this issue (case 93353).
* What else can I do? Reach out to the Arbeids- og inkluderingsdepartementet and members of Stortinget to ask for a change!
Good luck to those in the same situation!
I think it is unfair that this rule only applies to EEA citizens, but at the end of the day, it would be fine if people were aware that this rule exists.
Most aren’t, though, and it’s not exactly helped by UDI (just to be sure, I checked again, and it does not mention it on the site where you can get information on the application process based on your citizenship).
