Are those monkeys or puppies? I guess by „given back to nature“ you mean buried? :'(
Oh no, I hope the mum comes back and takes care of them… She will probably move them to another place, I’ve seen them do it.
Lesson learned – dont fix bird boxes between months of March and May!

Many would learn from this if they take it on the show (which I think they might).
I suggest to have two kind of bird boxes. One with a metal plate (with round hole around the entry) for birds and another set without for squirrels.
Btw woodpeckers eat young birds, so one more good reason to have the metal plate version

I thought these are puppies and was extremely confused, thanks for someone who pointed out they are squirrels. I feel very stupid now lol.
Squirrels can have multiple nests, and they move their kids between them.
