Aserbaidschan-Israel-USA: Allianz für Stabilität im Kaukasus und im Nahen Osten-jenseits von Öl und Armen

Azerbaijan has long worked closely with Israel, supplying oil and receiving Israeli weapons to modernize its military. If Washington supports this partnership, it gains a key ally on Iran’s border. Adding Azerbaijan to the Abraham Accords would strengthen ties with the U.S. and anti-Iran states like the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco potentially forming an anti-Iran coalition.

Iran sees a strong Azerbaijan as a major threat, as it boosts Israel and Turkey while exposing Tehran’s vulnerabilities. Ethnic Azerbaijanis, making up about a third of Iran’s population, face harsh repression, including cultural erasure and state violence. Iran has repeatedly tried to undermine Azerbaijan, from backing proxy groups to assassination attempts and border military drills.

By joining Israel’s security cooperation with Azerbaijan, Washington could counter Iran, secure the Middle Corridor trade route, a global trade route from Asia to Europe bypassing Russia and Iran. A stable route would give the West better access to Central Asia. The region’s large oil and gas reserves could also cut Europe’s dependence on Russian energy.
