Heute habe ich mich entschlossen, mit einem Freund im Zentrum von Köln zu laufen, und wir gingen in ein paar Souvenirläden. Während wir uns die Produkte ansahen, stieß ich mit der Konföderierten Kampfflagge auf dieses Armband. Ich frage mich, ob dies nur ein unglücklicher Zufall war und die Person, die es verkauft, keine Ahnung hat, was es darstellt, oder ob der weiße Supremacismus so „cool“ geworden ist, dass eines seiner Symbole jetzt in einem zufälligen Souvenirladen verkauft wird.

The confederate flag doesnt really have a bad connotation in germany
It’s made in Turkey with the evil eye 🧿 mixed in with the flag, I don’t think it was aiming for white supremacy, it’s probably not on purpose
1. I doubt the person selling it paid any particular attention to it, nor did the people making it in turkey who combined it with the „evil eye“ warding charms.
2. In Germany the confederate flag is still more often than not seen as a harmless bit of americana especially among boomers, think cigar store Indians, classic cars, Harley Davidson americana kitsch. (younger people probably feel a bit differently due to internet exposure to the problematic nature of the flag, but still a minority)
