Submission statement: Decker Eveleth (an associate research analyst at CNA, a nonprofit research and analysis organization based in Washington) brings to the fore the Putin propaganda point about disarming Russia by using the Oreshnik missile in lieu of actual nuclear deterrence. While this point was already voiced by Putin back in November, now Western propaganda are reiterating it, thus demonstrating the effective unity of both the Western and Russian narratives – interpreting Russian failures and downsides as triumphs (likely with the aim to prepare Russian public for the eventual defeat).
Sure, an IRBM can make life suck for the opponent, but these are not cheap, and if 36 submunitions are used, they simply wont have enough explosives to do extensive damage as theorized in the article.
Plus, they are not very accurate. Especially not if the warheads are conventional.
If nuclear warheads are used, accuracy isn’t as important a factor.
I don’t care too much for these. If a war between Russia and Europe breaks out, there are much worse things to be concerned about.
