Leute,

Swimwear can be unhygienic, as synthetic fabrics can release fumes in the heat. This is not only unpleasant for other sauna guests but could also pose health risks. Additionally, sweat accumulates in the fabric, which can promote the growth of fungi and bacteria.

Mostly because of tradition and health. Wearing clothes in a sauna traps the heat and sweat produced by a person. Making it less comfortable for and unhygienic.

    3. * Wearing clothes, especially synthetic swimwear, traps sweat and bacteria, making the sauna less sanitary.
      * Fabrics absorb sweat and can introduce bacteria into the heat, leading to unpleasant odors and potential skin infections.
      * Sitting naked on a towel (which can be washed after each use) is cleaner than sitting in damp, sweaty clothing.

    4. Just so we are clear, most saunas in the country dont oppose you being naked but staying wrapped in a towel.

If being nude / fear of being seen nude is the issue..

There are even some towel wrap arounds on amazon and co. Basically towel but sewn in circle..

As for why no other tissues and such its because of chemicals fumes and bad reactions to heat..

Some have like plastic bands that can melt (burn into body) and or release fumes.. same with some of the synthetic stuff.. semi also to avoid people coming to complain that their clothes are damaged from sauna..

    5. You can still wrap your body with towel if you like, or cotton bath gowns (seems tolerance for wearing bath gowns depends on the premise)

Aside from hygiene aspect others already have mentioned, synthetic fabric such as swimwear can also get extremely hot in the sauna. Only saunas allowing swimwear is steam saunas such as hammam or equivalent.

It’s not mandatory. You can wear a towel or a bathrobe if you want.

Tradition. But just wear a towel and let everyone know how uncomfortable you are with your penis/ breasts
