These are IGEL, **I**ndividuelle **Ge**sundheits**l**eistungen or individual healthcare treatments.
This are additional treatments. Most of them do not fulfil the requirements of the health insurance companies to be demonstrably good for the health of the patients. Either because there are too many false positive cases (such as the first point, vaginal ultrasound, which is very controversial because there are many false positive findings and patients think they may have cancer, but then it turns out to be a false alarm) or because there is no scientific link between the examination and the result.
It’s not *all* bad, for some the evidence may be a little thin or there are other more useful tests. But normally these services are not really worthwhile.
Stuff on the left are things that are covered by insurance, stuff on the right are things that you have to pay yourself. You will be able to get the costs for some of those back from your insurance in some cases as well, but usually you’ll be stuck with the costs yourself.
