Potential cuts to the U.S. AI Safety Institute (AISI) are causing alarm among some in the technology space who fear the development of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) could be at risk as [President Trump ](https://thehill.com/people/donald-trump/)works to downsize the federal government.
Jason Green-Lowe, the executive director for the Center for AI Policy, noted the broader NIST and the AISI are already “seriously understaffed,”
“If we’re going to be doing all of this investment in AI, then we need a proportional increase in the investment in the people who are doing guidelines and standards and guardrails,” Green-Lowe said. “Instead, we’re throwing out some of the best technical talent.”
