Hey Isländer, dein Skyr ist sehr lecker und hat viel Protein. Im Moment kaufe ich immer „Supermarkt“ Skyr oder Arla. Es kostet 3,40 € pro kg, was viel billiger ist als Isey Skyr. Deshalb möchte ich fragen, ob Isey Skyr den Preis wert ist oder nicht. Und ist dies die populairste Marke für Skyr in Island oder gibt es andere Populair -Marken?

It might be the most popular in Iceland but it’s also the most like yogurt, I like it but I prefer the other Icelandic brands personally.
You’re not going to get a good answer here because most Icelanders don’t really know enough about the other Skyr products to offer a reasonable answer.
Why?
Because there’s a dairy monopoly in Iceland and most people’s experience of skyr is with the brand now known as Ísey. Ísey is the most popular skyr here simply because there isn’t really much competition due to the dairy monopoly. There’s two other brands that are easy to find and one of those is also part of the monopoly. The products you see in Europe aren’t sold here so it’s hard to compare.
The only one sold “abroad” is Ísey and AFAIK, Ísey skyr sold in the UK and Mainland Europe is made in Europe under license. I think it’s made in Denmark.
What do **YOU** like?
Arla „skyr“ is an insult to skyr.
I have tried AH brand skyr and I don’t find there to be any significant difference in taste. More importantly to me there are no artificial sweeteners.
As someone who eats 500gr skyr every day and spend 1/2 time in Iceland 1/2 in NL, all the brands mentioned are fine :-)… I take Arla biologisch most of the time as I find it a bit milder… but the AH house brand is fine too in my opinion. The ísey is mild taste… AH brand is cheapest…
I only take the unflavoured though, don’t know the other ones
The Lidl brand was disgusting though… can’t do that again.
Basically, I eat it for the nutritional value – and they are all similar 🙂
In Iceland we have, generally, the following major Skyr brands: Ísey, KEA, and Arna.
Ísey and KEA are both made by MS. Ísey is sweeter and more yoghurty than KEA which is closer to the traditional cheese-like Skyr roots. Nothing quite like buying KEA unstirred skyr and getting a solid block of sour skyr you have to thin out with cream.
Arna is the independent underdog in the dairy monopoly of Iceland and focuses on lactose-free dairy products. It’s fine, but I prefer KEA personally.
Foreign brands, like Arla, Siggi’s, or your local supermarket brand skyrs are not available here so a lot of us can’t offer you any good comparisons.
