As the title suggests: A new solar panel recycling system achieves a 99.3% recovery rate, using just 1 kWh of energy per panel while processing one panel per minute (~400,000 per year). The highly automated process mechanically separates aluminum frames and junction boxes, then uses airflow to separate backsheets, encapsulants, and cell materials without chemical reactions, preserving silicon and metals’ semiconductor and conductive properties for reuse.

Certified by SGS, the system also recovers glass to ASTM C1866 standards for use in concrete and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) for high-quality consumer goods like shoe soles and yoga mats. Designed for mobility, the equipment fits into a standard 53-foot trailer, enabling on-site recycling at decommissioning projects, reducing transportation costs, and supporting California’s strict environmental regulations. Future plans include hardware-as-a-service (HaaS) leasing to expand access outside of California.
