For Australia, it makes sense to look to China rather than an imploding USA. This article suggests countries in Asia are rebuilding relationships with China the alternative is so bad. It makes sense to me.
Personally, I would rather see Australia band together with other regional middle powers like Japan, SK, Indonesia and lesser powers like NZ and the various Pacific Island nations to form an independent axis no reliant on great powers.
Allying with any great power always puts you in opposition of another. We could avoid all that while quietly strengthening ourselves.
