The Trump administration has frozen all US funding for Palestinian Authority security forces, as part of a global freeze on foreign assistance from USAID.

The aid freeze comes at a particularly sensitive time for the PA, which is facing difficulties in controlling the West Bank and struggling for its place in the post-war era in Gaza.

While the Biden administration supported the Palestinian Authority’s return to Gaza, the move was met with opposition from both Israel and Hamas, the PA’s arch-rival.

At the same time, under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas, the PA is forced to pay only partial salaries to its employees in the West Bank, including the security forces. Thus, and due to the additional freeze in US funding to the PA, the already weak PA is expected to weaken even further.
