Recorded as **New Horizons** was passing by on April 2, 2007 on its way to Pluto.

    2. Io is just a bit larger than our moon. So just imagine being able to see this with the naked eye on a full moon night.

    3. This would be like a volcano on Earth spewing lava so high it would practically hit the ISS on flyover. It’s a mind-bogglingly ridiculous fountain of lava.

i don’t think i can really grasp how insanely big that volcano eruption is. If we could see it in color, would it be glowing?

    5. Calling the atmosphere “thin” is almost misleading. It’s 3×10^-9 thinner than ours – at its peak.

Is the ejection of mass in a single direction substantial enough to alter Io’s orbit?
