    1. Trump has reportedly issued an executive order to impose sanctions on South Africa. This move could have significant economic and diplomatic consequences, affecting trade relations and the country’s global standing. The reasons behind the sanctions and their potential impact remain a key topic of discussion. If confirmed, this decision could lead to further tensions between the U.S. and South Africa. What are your thoughts on the implications of this order?

I can imagine a comedy where South Africa, out of all the countries in BRICS, decided to be the one to make the reserve currency in response to this

South Africa is not the powerhouse it once was. Billions of Rands and foreign reserves have been siphoned by a kleptogratic regime (ANC), which has done nothing to very little to solve internal poverty. Where South Africa once supplied power and food to Sub-Saharan Africa, it is now an importer. One cannot imagine how the current regime can survive American sanctions, when the previous one could not. Just grandstanding.

    4. Musk probably won’t like the fact that Afrikaners have a chance to reach refugee status. But South Africa is going more into economic crisis than it was and this would not be great for South Africa!

To be fair South Africa has instituted a tonne of laws which actively discriminate against Afrikaners, other whites, and even Indians. The Land Courts bill was just the final straw.

The executive order does not sanction South Africa. It suspends all aid to South Africa as well as giving expedited Refugee status to Afrikaners ( dutcj descended white South Africans).

Currently SA only receives aid for PEPFAR (the ARV programme) with the US providing about 17 % of its budget. The SA government will mostly be able to handle the shortfall, but NGOs in South Africa will probably be massively effected because they get they funding disproportionately from the US.

I read the order – what’s the intended outcome here and what do they propose it will fix?
